Often described as natural or intuitive, Effective Decision Making are important leadership traits and skills. This program will guide participants through a series of triage work to determine the level of decision being made, the potential consequences of the decision and when to seek collaboration and when to make the decision as a leader. Additionally, the program looks at the pitfalls of delegating decision making upwardly and the appearance of indecisiveness with decision opportunities. The balance between the right amount of information, being rash and making a decision are also covered in detail. The final element of this section of the program will be to develop decision making systems that eliminate bottlenecks and greatly reduce micromanagement.

Effective Decision Making will assist participants in understanding the complex and often confusing nature of ethical behavior at work. The primary focus is to develop and use skills to identify ethical dilemmas, provide guidance to the correct, and ethical, course of action and to develop heightened sense of ethical values.

A core piece of Effective Decision Making is to contrast the difference between personal morality and organizational ethics. This competency will reduce some of the conflicts associated with misperceptions about ethics and aid participants in judging ethical behavior more accurately. Using a three tiered approach for ethical judgment is introduced and used as the baseline decision architecture for ethical behavior.

Effective Decision Making provides important skills and learning for success in the modern working environment.

1. Identify the levels of decision making and the correct amount of information that corresponds to each level.

2. Understand the impacts of delayed decisions and decision opportunities that are upwardly delegated or ignored.

3. Avoid the pitfalls of rash decisions and decision points that are overly analyzed.

4. Recognize when to make an individual decision and when to seek input and collaboration.

5. Apply higher levels of organizational judgment attached to mission and core values and ignore personal feelings.

6. Understand the impacts and consequences of judgment beyond the immediate decision point.

7. Understand the difference between ethics, integrity and morality.

8. Utilize three tools to determine if a decision or behavior is ethical.

9. Understand the importance of appearance values in ethical decision making.

10. Review the most common ethical challenges in all organizational levels.

11. Obtain a clear understanding of who owns ethics and what ethics are and are not.
